Lisa Bate was born in England and is currently based in New Zealand. Graduating with a BA hons in Contemporary Crafts from Falmouth University, specialising in lost wax cast glass and fine metalwork. Lisa went on to teach on the crafts degree as a Technical Instructor in Glass and gained her postgraduate teachers qualification in Creative Education. She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally.
Lisa produces cast glass and mixed media sculpture which reflect how human interference continues to transform the world around us. Using found objects to produce moulds for the lost wax cast glass technique, ideas are explored by deconstruction and reconstruction methods to change the object’s original appearance. Inventions can often take the form of a hybrid species, some can move or are magnetic.
